Just a small update: Martin (in from Seattle), Alex, and I went off to French’s dome yesterday. Out by Mt. Hood, just outside of Zigzag, is a solitary, giant rock. I guess it’s a “lava plug” which i think means a giant piece of basalt thrown by volcanic explosion about 20 miles until it landed in the forest. It’s a strange beast, with some of the most solid volcanic rock that I’ve ever seen and some quality sport climbing, including the classic poorly pictured here, China Man.

Next weekend should bring another paycheck and then it’s off to gorgeous Smith Rock for some midsummer desert heat and hopefully some work on Delirium Tremens, a 5.10b ultra-classic trad crack in the marsupials. More to come later!
